So, welcome to my blog! I hope it will be a bragadocious experience.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.comBlogger171125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-37560476768483270962018-09-03T19:27:00.000-07:002018-09-03T19:27:14.473-07:00Whereas I get lost in a family history hole and the clutch goes out on the carThe title about says it all. I started working on Family history again and found myself stuck down a hole where I kept finding more and more. I found a guy's wife's maiden name on the marriage license. Well that had her parents names on it. So then I found their marriage license and the one for their parents.... and if you know anything about family search then you know I was linking sources like mad and creating new people and my computer was soooo slow and it was a painful kind of fun.

But anyway... :)

Our oldest has been driving herself to seminary and school with her dad's old commuter car. A '98. Well she took her sister for a treat at DQ tonight and the clutch ended up going out in the parking lot. Of course my husband was unhappy because it will cost money to fix. But it is what it is. What are you going to do? Buy a new car? No. you fix the clutch and hope it doesn't go out again anytime soon. For the record, this '98 has had 3 things go out on it. The battery, the anti lock braking system, and now the clutch. Overall it has been a very solid car. It is 20 years old after all. And it needs a new clear coat on the paint. Well we had another adventure tonight! I talked Dad into raising meat chickens.

It is something I've wanted to try for a while. But I just didn't have the space/couldn't talk Milton into it. So I talked Dad into it. :)

It was fun to watch him care for the Rolin S birds we got. He took really good care if them.

Tonight it was time to get them caught and in a trailer to go to the butcher tomorrow. We decided the pasture was dry enough for a car and trailer (it is irrigation day, but there are a decent amount of high spots in the pasture). We regretted that decision when the chickens were all in the pen on the trailer and Dad was stuck in the mud right at the edge of the pasture.

A little sand, some pieces of bark from the wood pile, a couple of 1x4s and a lot of backing up and pulling forward and he got out. It took about 10 minutes, but It was 10 minutes of panic because I was the one who convinced him it was dry enough and he didn't need to use the Jeep.

I'm excited to tally up the total bill tomorrow after they are processed. It will be interesting to see the total cost of raising 30 meat chickens. We lost 2 along the way. We raised them for about 12 weeks.

I'm also interested in how they taste since I've never eaten a real pasture raised chicken and I've heard this breed is more of a European chicken (whatever that means). They were very nice birds. I thought since some of them were crowing I would get bitten or pecked. But none of that. We grabbed them with a fish net and picked them up.

Mia helped us out and then Mom joined in the fun. We all got covered in feathers and other not so nice stuff that chickens are covered in. After it all I encouraged Mia to wash her hands . Personally I changed my clothes, washed my arms up past my elbows, and wiped my Fitbit down with hand sanitizer. :) My shirt smelled like those birds.

I hope they do well on the ride tomorrow. They are fatter than some of my laying hens and I hope they don't get stressed or hot on the ride. I can't believe how quickly they grew. I think maybe we should have had food only available half the time and perhaps put them out on the pasture more, but this was our first time, and we had no idea they would eat the pasture grass down in their run so completely. Hopefully it will grow back in the next year when we might do this again.

The twins start kindergarten tomorrow. TOMORROW. This is a day I was certain would never come. I've been super nervous about it because of their various issues. From personality issues with Nolan and his lack of motivation and speech issues, to Quinten who is so driven and intense. We went to an open house on Friday and met their teacher. She is the same teacher Ned had. And after meeting the boys she seems totally confident in their ability to do well. That is just what I needed to hear. She raised 2 sons of her own and she told me that one son was very much like Quinten in personality. So she should be able to handle it. There will be a different classroom aide this year so that makes me sad and a bit nervous. But I'm going to hold off on worrying about that until I have to.

We just got back from 2 different family reunions. We went to Salmon and camped with Mom and Dad, Alyson's 3 oldest, Linzy and her husband, Alysa and her kids, Wendy and Jake, and Kevin and Kim and 2 daughters.

We had a lot of fun and were able to relax quite a bit. Milton took the boys, Mia, and Logan fishing. they all caught a fish and I think Ned caught 2. Someone caught 2 because they caught their limit of 6. Milton was a trooper and even though he didn't get to cast a line, had a good time. he attempted to teach the kids how to clean the fish, and after an afternoon of relaxing cooked them all up for us and we had fish for dinner.

One of the days we took a tour of various sites of interest in Salmon. Dad and Mom arranged for us to tour the house that Dad built in Salmon. The lady who lived there was very gracious and generously allowed us run of the whole place. She seemed very interested in the ways her home had changed since Dad built it and Dad and Mom were interested in the various ways the home had been remodeled.

We left on Thursday, a day earlier than everyone else, because we had to be home Friday morning to go to the kindergarten meet the teacher.

Friday after meeting the teacher, Laura and I drove to Pocatello to another family reunion. The Lorenzo Snow Whiting SR. Reunion. I think. I might have that name wrong. It could be JR instead of SR.

But anyway, we met most of the people who stayed and camped in salmon one more night there. We also met several family members. most of whom i had met years before, or never met. It was very interesting to see where the various branches of the family had ended up. Also very interesting to see many new to me old pictures. They are on family search now, so I'm going to have to check them out a bit more thoroughly.

I can't believe school starts on Monday. Tomorrow! That is very crazy to me. My oldest is now a sophmore in high school and has her drivers license. What?!? She will be able to date soon. My second oldest will soon start to attend dances. Life is ever changing.

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-59850468830548737722017-12-02T15:45:00.000-08:002017-12-02T15:45:07.438-08:00It goes on and on and on and oooooonnnnn. So, yeah. Long time no see. Lets leave it at that.

I've been reading and catching up on lots of family blogs lately and realized one thing. I can/will share things on a blog that would never fit on Facebook. To many deep complete thoughts that are to lengthy for a format such as Facebook.

So here I am again.

We have quite a few things going on as always, so here I will update, family member by family member.

I have been on quite an adventure lately. I've volunteered for a church service family history mission. I serve 8 hours from my home computer each week. I thought, 8 hours, no problem. Well, yes, it is a problem. Especially through the holidays, family vacations, kids getting stomach bugs, family events and so on and so on. I've come to the realization that at this time in my life this might not be the right mission for me. So when I get to the 1 year mark in July, I won't be extending.

Sad, but not sad. I think flexibility is more important in my life right now. I can still work at family history work, but it doesn't have to be quite so much time. And it can be at the rate I have time. And if I feel like taking a break and focusing on sewing or some other crafty thing, I can do that! Right now, I feel like all of my extra time is doing my mission. I know that is not true, because like every other human I waste time. But it feels like that. In the meantime, I am trying to focus better on not wasting my time.

I have come to the realization of how easy it is to replace a zipper in a coat. That is cool. I got a really nice coat for Ned for .50 at a garage sale a few summers ago. It was in a pile of random clothes that were all .50 each. One of those garage sale fundraisers where there is every size you could want. But not a lot of quality stuff. Except this awesome coat. Think of those nice coats at D&B with the thick canvas type material. We went to use it the first winter and were super bummed to discover a broken zipper. So I measured it and picked the old one out and sewed in a new one! It wasn't perfect, but looked pretty good! Now Ned has outgrown it and the twins will use it for a winter or 2. The zipper was around $5 . Not a bad investment!

We have chickens and cows these days. We just brought our turkeys to the processor and chose to also bring the rooster as well. Serves him right. He liked to attack us. You always had to keep an eye on him. Every time he would get brave I would chase him around the pasture with the BB gun or sticks and throw them at him until he remembered who was in charge. The drawback was that if anyone but me went into the pasture, (except Milt) he would attack them. So he is now going to make a yummy broth. Yes I feel slightly guilty about the whole thing. he was just doing what was in his nature. Oh well.

Milton is busy as always. He is in charge of the cows, and firewood. And of course he is a general maintenance guy too. He always has a to do list going on his phone. He watches sports of all sorts when he has down time. About a week ago (don't tell Alyson) he went out to the alfalfa stack and found that a semi feral cat of ours had had kittens. He saw 2. Great. This cat had just had kittens in the spring and the one kitten from that is totally feral. So I have been bribing her with tuna fish so I could hold the kittens. I need to go do that again. But I think I am going to get the trap I have set so that get her and her other older kitten fixed. I have to or we are going to have more kittens this spring. I don't know if her older kitten is boy or girl. My luck is its a girl. We dont have a name for it, but go between Scaredy and Jumpy.

Cecilee is going to be 15 this month. Where has time gone? She is currently on the girls JV basketball team in our small school and has even played in a varsity game or two. She is a very studious and contentious girl who loves to go to stake dances and enjoys being social with her friends. She has even had a crush or 10 and we only find out when we review some of her online conversations or texts. She referees soccer for pay and likes to read. She is getting good grades and her teachers at school and church like her a lot. She has happy, well intentioned girl who wants to help people and serve a mission someday.

Mia is 13. A teenager with a lot of angst is how I would describe her. She has talents that are different than her sisters and so as a result struggles when she can't keep up with her sister at times. Her goal in life is to keep up with Cecilee. If Cecilee has it, she wants it. Clothes, friends, social stuff. Everything. She struggles in school. She likes school, but doesn't get good grades at all. She is actually failing most of her classes right now. I talked to another mother in our ward and am trying something new. I'm going to pay her for every A and B that she gets. On every assignment she brings home. .50 for As and .25 for Bs. I'm hoping this appeal to her money loving side. If she were to get As on all of the assignments she brings home (say 20 assignments) she could get $10/week from us. If it pulls her grades up, its worth it. Now to see if it actually works. The problems Mia has is that she wants to take the easy path at all times. She loves to go to her friends house. The friend has everything from Horses, to goats, kittens, exotic birds, turtles, everything. We only have cows and chickens and kittens. We can't compete. She loves animals and caring for them (but only at her friends house. Not at our house. No interest at all) We are all trying. I just hope she becomes a great adult and that we don't fail her as parents.

Ned is my super smiley boy. I woke him up a few times last week by sitting on his bed and rubbing his back. I don't want to wake him up with yelling, because that makes him grumpy. The result is that he looked at me with a big smile on his face and then gives me a big hug. I love my Ned. He is in first grade and working like a champ. He loves school and is a good kid. I struggle when he gets in trouble (not my Ned!) but I also see how he can torture his little brothers, so I can totally see him getting into trouble. But he doesn't do it to be mean. The other day I got a call from the school cafeteria. He owed money. Strange since he brings a cold lunch every day lovingly prepared by Milton. :) Anyway I talked to him and he said "I just wanted to be a hot luncher MOM!" All the time crying and so upset. I explained that it cost money and gave him some extra chores to pay it off. He was so sad to be caught. I think he might have a few friends that egg each other on. We shall see what happens there....

Nolan is a sweet quiet observant little guy. He has been going to speech therapy since last spring. he has trouble being understood. He made a lot of progress last summer, but now that insurance is not covering any more visits in 2017, he only goes to the speech therapist at the school. she does a good job, but it doesn't seem to be as effective as the private one. I know that I can help by working with him at home more. We watch a lot of Yak Back Pack and he and all the boys enjoy that. Right now we are working on S blends. He and Ned are best friends and like to play together. He will occasionally get frustrated because he can't get the other boys to do what he wants. He bit Quinten last week. But we had a good talk about that. I think he just gets frustrated. I worry about him next year in Kindergarten. I just don't want him to be labeled as anything other than "kindergartner". I just want him to be able to be normal. Of course, I don't think any of this will bother him in the least. But a mom worries.

Quinten is my busy busy boy. Sweet kid. Likes to talk. Likes to have his way. Likes to be everywhere doing everything. Loves his mom. Has a hard time sitting still and focusing. We are working on that. He is very sweet. This year we are working with a Ophthalmologist. We started with an optometrist. She saw him for a few months and then referred him to another doc in her office for some sort of therapy (that our pediatrician - who I really trust - said had kind of been disproved). Add to that, that we had to drive 35 minutes to get to appointments, and we decided to go to a ophthalmologist office that was 10 minutes away, and charged the same as the optometrist. I also liked him a lot better and he seemed to have a lot more experience than the optometrist. Anyway, we are now patching 6 hours per day. the trouble we have is getting an accurate picture of where he is since he can't read an eye chart very well. Quinten is attending preschool at the local early education program for kids with special needs. They basically decided that he needed some help catching up with his cutting, writing, dexterity type skills. It was at their screening that we found out that he needed glasses. Our opinion is that a lot of his skills issues are due to the fact that his eyes were so bad. So far he has progressed quite a bit. The main thing I worry about is his lack of focus. I worry about how that will affect kindergarten next year. His teacher has expressed a need to have him focus on tasks at home more. Puzzles, etc. He needs to learn patience and follow through on tasks. So basically we need to make him follow through and not give up on tasks. He needs to learn to sit still throughout sacrament meeting for example and primary. This is the only way he is going to survive kindergarten. The other day in primary they asked him if he had a friend he was thankful for (in sharing time) and he said Roman. I said, did he mean Nolan? No, he said, Roman, from the big school (what we call his preschool). I kind of broke down. Quinten is a bit of a loner at our house. Ned and Nolan don't really play with him, so as a result he tends to play alone and occasionally with him. To hear that he had a friend at school gave me hope. Sometimes I worry that he is ADHD or something and that he is going to have problems. This moment was me facing that fear. I worry about my boys. So Much. Milton tells me that I shouldn't worry about what I can't control. True. But still.....

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-71166134018699966132017-03-12T14:11:00.002-07:002017-03-12T14:11:41.008-07:00Well now. I'm not even going to write the obligatory bit about how long its been. I find myself posting bits and pieces on Facebook because its quicker than posting here. It is what it is.

Life has been just jetting along. Here it is March and Ned is half way through his kindergarten year. He has learned about 20 sight words and it is so exciting to see him learning so quickly and at a school that pushes him to his potential. He (and we!) love his teachers and enjoy seeing his success. Ned has such a smiley personality and he loves to learn. He loves his teacher and school. I'm so grateful for a situation like this that even though it is strict, still is able to foster a feeling of fun and enjoyment of learning at school. He has recently learned to ride a 2 wheel bicycle. It wasn't that hard. He has had a balance bike for a while and the other day Grandpa pointed out that he was riding his normal bike and the training wheels were only touching the ground when he had to make turns. And they were just in the way. And then one broke this weekend and we took the other one off and, well, he is riding a 2 wheeler all over the place. He is looking forward to spring soccer and did great in the fall. Dad coaches his team and Ned loves it. Milt loves it too, he is a good coach.

Nolan has been doing great as well. He is currently on a talking streak. he talks and talks. but its hard to know what he is saying all of the time. I am thinking quite hard about a speech therapist for him. Still undecided. he is still a sweet boy with a stubborn streak. Very gentle and kind, but when things are just not going his way he collapses on the ground and pouts. he has taken to wearing baseball hats all over the place just like Dad. Its pretty cute. He also says "B I U" which is of course BYU, he just doesn't say Y yet. He has figured out his Dad's obsession. He has also started a very helpful spurt lately. He will hang out in the kitchen with me and put away ingredients for me as I cook.

He and Quinten go to Preschool on Tuesdays and Music class at Aunt Jenn's house on thursdays. They went for the first time last week and ever since Quinten has been telling me its time to go to music class. He can't wait for next time.

Quinten has been trying to learn to sit still. he is getting better, but he still tends to be that one kid in primary who pops up and has to go and talk to the teacher at the front. We will continue to work on that. Quinten talks a blue streak and is very insistant. he still sucks his thumb which on top of other things has caused teeth problems. Poor kid has had 3 tooth abcesses over the past 4 months. Sadly when that happens with baby teeth they pull them. Luckly though there were a few early molars ready to pop up and come right in. so he isn't suffering that I can tell. He now gets his teeth brushed with a Sonicare 2x a day because that is cheaper than paying for all of the dental work. He breezed through his dental coverage last year. Yikes! He is also working on riding a 2 wheeler. He knows how, but stopping and starting are his challenge right now. I think he will get it fairly soon.

All of the boys have been helping with some baby chicks we got at the end of january. We have a total of 27. they boys named one Jacky, and another Pumpkin. however I have no idea how to tell which one is Pumpkin. there are several with the same coloring that it could be. I think the boys have the same problem and just grab the one that looks right and call him Pumpkin. We just moved the chicks out to the chicken coop today. they had been living in the greenhouse, but boy was it getting smelly!

The greenhouse has been planted for about a week or so now and I'm grateful to be able to go in there and not have to watch for chicks. Last week all 3 boys were in there with me so it was 4 people and 27 chicks in a 6x8 greenhouse with shelving. yikes.

Cecilee has been going to stake dances lately. yes, she is that old. She has several friends that all go with her and they seem to have a fun time She has danced with boys several time and I think she enjoys hanging out with her friends. She has just recently started reffing soccer games on the weekends. She comes home sore and tired, but I'm glad that she is able to have a job so young. She has yet to get paid, but I'm looking forward to that so she can see what hard work gets you. She is working hard in school and piano. She has soccer starting in a few weeks. She did fall basketball for her school and that was fun for her.

Mia has been working hard in school also. she loves to go to her friends houses and endures piano practice and housework. She enjoys playing with her brothers when they get to go outside and play. She enjoys animals of all sorts and singing and playing Minecraft. She also loves to read. She stays up to late reading in bed. She is not looking forward to Spring soccer, but here it comes!

Milton and I are swimming as hard and as fast as we can keeping everyone going in the right direction. He has been driving Cecilee to her Reffing gigs and since they are usually so far out he will stay. Yesterday he dropped her off and watched for a little while and then snuck away and hit a bucket of balls at the golf course. first time in a few years at least. I was glad that he could do that. he has been working hard out in the yard spraying fruit trees, maintaining trees and bushes, and all that sort of fun stuff.

I've been keeping busy doing stupid stuff like driving the kids to and from school 3-5 times a day depending on the day. I also clean the house, do laundry, and for an encore, do it all again the next day! I attempted and failed to learn how to make tamales. I however succeeded on learning how to make Gone with the Wind pudding as well as homemade Tapioca pudding. Not bad if I do say so myself! I'm flirting with quilting, but I've gotten to the point that we pretty much have as many blankets as we can use so why make more ? Its my practical side stopping me. I feel the need to have a creative outlet, so I'm not sure if I'll give in and continue to quilt or if I'll stop and move on to something else. I guess we'll see.

you know lately I've been reading about how we only put the bright and shiney bits of our lives out there and how destructive it can be. So here are a few not so great things. Beware, it can be gross and awful.
Quinten sucks his thumb and picks his nose at the same time. he's multitasking ! :) One finger in the mouth one up his nose.
Nolan, well i already tattled on him about how mellow he can be until its all tomuch and he just can't take it anymore and collapses on the floor and is mad.
Ned likes to torture his brothers. He is learning to not hit them, which of course means that he does he is a good torturerer. But i do need to mention that when he isn't teasing, he and the boys are quite good friends.
Toilet flushing, well, that is a struggle for all of my crew. Yuck.
Cecilee well, I won't embarass her or Mia with this. Lets just say they fight with each other and sometimes they get along. They like to tattle on each other. Heck they all like to do that. As a mother i find this part of my job most unsatisfactory.
I guess that leads to me. I'm a whiner. I'll admit it. Also, I tend to obsess about things I can't change. And that drives my husband up the wall. So I'm working on that. And then their are the times I get judgey. But that is probably enough for today, so we'll leave it there, ok?Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-36312998299989342362016-08-29T11:26:00.001-07:002016-08-29T11:26:35.571-07:00Its been a long timeSo its been a while. I had realize that, but just hadn't made this a priority. sorry.:(

Anyway, lets see...what is going on with my life. The chickens. The chickens are not laying where they are supposed to be! And then they like to wander way farther than they ever have. That is not so great when the neighbors are somewhat close. Its very frustrating and now I am visting not letting them free range for a little while so they will lay in the coop and remember that is where the eggs go.

Quinten is obsesses with primary music. He likes to listen on the ipad and turn the volume all the WAY UP. He likes to tell you that "Child of God is on the IPAD!!!!!" and that "I go to the temple. You want to come to temple?" and "The temple is open today!". Its sweet, amusing, and a little annoying with the music is really loud. But mostly sweet.

Nolan has discovered that he can have an opinion. And be stubborn. And throw fits. Its lovely. But its just a phase. And Wee loveee himmmmm. He is talking more and more, but still hard to understand. He and Quinten are in sunbeams. They start preschool after labor day and are looking forward to it very much.

Ned is in kindergarten and loves every minute. he loves building with legos and so do all the boys. He plays a lot with the smaller legos. He goes to kindergarten with a huge smile on his face and comes out with a huge smile on his face. he is a happy boy. and he loves kindergarten. He likes to tease and torture his brothers, so we are working on that. He likes doing stuff outside with his dad and isa huge help. He is to the point where he will do his chores, and especially likes to do thm when he can earn things. Like time onthe computer.

Mia is almost 12 years old. She is about a month away and can barely wait. She also loves to play lego friends, loves graphic novels, and enjoys pokemon shows. She enjoys playing Roblox with her friends and is always looking for a playdate to go on. She enjoys going to her friend Peyton's house because she has horses and all sorts of other animals.

Cecilee is in 8th grade and loving life. She likes to work hard at school and hang out with her friends. She is often found on the phone with her friend from Washington. She loves to read and go to the library. She enjoys mutual and also having friends over.

Ned, Cecilee and Mia are all going to be starting soccer pretty quick. This is Ned's first year and Milton is his coach. It shoudl be interesting to see how that goes. I know that Milton is looking forward to it.

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-24326803088073037932016-08-25T14:15:00.000-07:002016-08-25T14:15:23.604-07:00How about a new post. It's been awhile. In the spring or early summer, I can't remember specifically, but Megan and her Dad talked about an idea for our shed where we store our wood and misc supplies. The wood is stored on one side and then various stuff on the other. The other side needed organized and after the mention of this idea from Megan, I sought out to improve the shed since I also thought this was a great idea.

Megan was able to gather all the pots we had stored up in the shed that we used for growing plants in the spring, moved into a storage bin by the greenhouse. I then went about organizing my lawn tools and creating a bin in the shed for all the starter wood that was scattered everywhere. This created a space that I could park the mower. This is where Megan's idea of a second door for the mower came to be realized. I took down part of the wall and went about building some new doors. The old entrance location also needed some new doors, so why not do both. I watched a couple of different YouTube videos and came up with what I wanted to do.

Here are the results. Megan also helped with the painting, which I greatly appreciated. I'm also thankful for some tools that I was able to use from my Father in laws arsenal.

This is after I finished constructing the doors. I used 2x6 for the frame and stripped off the outer beveled edge. I used pocket screws to hold it together. I then routed out a 1/2 inch edge on the back of the door to place the particle board inset and nailed it into place.

This is after the doors where painted and before they were put into place. It's no easy task to hang doors. The new doors on the right went pretty smoothly, but the replacements on the main entrance to the left took some work. Overall it turned out well.

The rest of the shed also needed to match so it finally received a fresh coat of paint after 9 years of waiting. You can see in the previous picture that the shed was looking pretty sad. I power washed the wood to get rid of the layer of dirt. After the fresh coat of paint it looks halfway decent. I've also added some shelves to store some gas for the mower and fertilizer for the lawn in order to keep out of the little boys hands. I'm pretty happy with the final results.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-28717481107257178262016-02-05T21:08:00.000-08:002016-02-05T21:08:18.210-08:00So it turns outthat the neighbors actually did have a new rooster. They apparently have about 5 now. This new one was disrupting things and so it moved to our house. After a talk with the neighbors they have now taken him back and rearranged their roosters so that he is now a part of the group (or they ate one and put some of the others in closed coops so they can't get out. Go with whichever one makes you the happiest) :)

We have some new chicks arriving in a few weeks because its that time again. Also, its about time to wake up the greenhouse! One of my favorite times of the year! I've spent some time rearranging it while the boys were playing in the yard and it is at least somewhat ready for the onslaught of plants and chicks.

Milt trimmed the fruit trees today while I fed the chickens and collected eggs. I've also been working on some quilts for the kids since we have lots of sheet sets, but not a whole lot of twin sized quilts since the twins are still in toddler beds. I've got them all cut out and now comes the fun part of sewing.

We finally have the inside of the house finished. After begging the builder for what seemed like months (actually about 2 or so) , he finally showed up and in a few short hours finished what needed to be done. (There was that trip to the 'lumber store' that took so long the store must have been in Twin Falls, 2 hours away) There is still a small section that needs to be painted, but he shared that the painter just had a new baby. So knowing how long it was going to be to get him here before that, I'm tempted to paint it myself. This project went fast and slow. It was a bit like that dance. Which one is it? Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow. That is how I would describe it anyway.

Now we just have to wait for the weather to cooperate so that we can have a yard and sprinklers and all that stuff again.

It will be worth it. It will be worth it. It will be worth it.

Who knew this process was going to be nearly a year? We are coming up on 9 months. Lets not count the time that we spent on all the other stuff like dreaming this thing up :)

We love the addition so far. My only regret is looking at our finances after the fact.

Sorry this update is all over the place.

The girls are both in Charter school now. They both love it. Who knew? Ned is in preschool taught by me. I have 5 other students.

Things preschool has taught me. There are some really stinky people out there who will take you for all you are worth. Even preschool. They will promise to pay you for a couple of months and then say it will be such and such a date and then stop showing up just before that date, never to be heard from again no matter how many times you text them. They will leave owing you money for several months because you didn't push it because of Christmas. I don't think I'm much of a businesswoman because this has happened to me 2x and then that other lady who had her daughter come 3 times and then promised me she would drop by and pay me for my time (she said she got a new job and couldn't get her daughter to preschool anymore)

So, I'm making somewhere around minimum wage to teach preschool in my home. That doesn't even count the prep time, and all the months of buying snacks since the parents were claiming (after Christmas) poverty. I don't know if I'm going to do this again next year. I don't know if its worth it. I will teach preschool to the twins. I just don't know if I will have any additional students. I don't know if its worth it to deal with the parents and the business side.

Well enough whining from me.

The good news about preschool is that Ned is thriving. He loves it. He loves having kids over and learning. Its a huge positive thing for him.

The twins are getting bigger and smarter and doing well. Nolan is mostly potty trained and Quinten is potty trained. Yay. Good days and bad. Booh.

I'm tired of typing so, perhaps I will try and update again sooner rather than later!Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-17788080973369502612016-01-05T12:46:00.003-08:002016-01-05T12:54:41.069-08:00No No, not a new family member. No thanks. So I look out the window this morning and realize I've got a new rooster. One somewhere between a adolescent and full grown. Lots of colorful feathers, but no spurs.
Interesting. I head on out and confirm that it is indeed a rooster. I compare him to the youngest chickens and confirm that he is to large to be one of that group.
Another thing to think about was the fact that over the summer I did have a hen acting rooster-ish. mounting other hens and such. http://www.livescience.com/13514-sex-change-chicken-gertie-hen-bertie-cockerel.html It can happen.
However, I was just out there about a week ago, topping off the feeders and water. So unless she grew tail feathers, started walking taller, and got a crazy look in her eye in a week, this isn't that.

Another tell was the fact that he wanted nothing to do with me. My chickens don't love me - we don't have that sort of relationship - but when I bring food, they come running. This guy kept far away.

So I contemplated what to do. Do I keep him? Hope he leaves? Or 'gift' him to the neighbors.

I thought it over as I topped off the food and water. We don't have a rooster because we have little boys. So a rooster, and even more so one that is strange to us, has no place on our property until our boys get a bit taller and understand their dangers.

Also, I think this is the new rooster who has been crowing about midnight each night.

So he had to go.

Hey, did I tell you the neighbors have a new rooster? :)

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-34669842516940065872015-12-14T07:24:00.000-08:002015-12-14T07:24:55.372-08:00I wish this was.......I wish this was the final post on the home addition, but there is still the rest of the retaining wall and final grade to do outside. The weather and subcontractor haven't been able to sync up to complete that part of the project. That is outside and since it's winter we don't spend too much time out there.

Inside there are only a couple of paint touch ups and an one additional electrical socket to finish. So close to be officially done inside.

Now to the Photos.

The railing for the stairs.
Of course it sounds more like "O! Watching a bunch of HGTV and now here we are. I'll try to get this all in order, but here goes.

It all started with the excavation.

Tons and tons of dirt that will be leveled out and added to the slope of our property.

Here are multiple views of where the dirt came from. We decided to do 9 ft ceilings in the basement to help it not feel like a basement, but with all the bonuses of a daylight basement.

Doesn't look like much,m but that is a deep hole.
The back door was locked from the outside so the boys didn't get any ideas. When the excavation started happening and they were tearing up the back porch, the twins started crying. They probably thought the whole house was coming down.
Another view.

As you can see it's looking pretty cool. We are currently done with drywall and the tape and mudding is going on right now, but I haven't taken pictures yet. It's a complete mess right now, but we're supposedly only six weeks from completion. Looking forward to cooking with and oven and multiple burners again.

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-28454233676454408072015-09-06T17:34:00.001-07:002015-09-06T18:41:49.275-07:00What a project!About 6 months or so ago I had a brilliant idea. As with all of my brilliant ideas, they are only kinda of brilliant. Milton says they usually cost money.

We had gone to someone else's house and I was amazed that they could send their kids downstairs and not hear them. NOT HEAR THEM! How was that possible.

So we had to check into this for ourselves.

What that led to was us contacting a builder in our ward, contacting our old builder to help draw up some house plans, and going to the bank for a loan.

We started construction on our addition shortly after Memorial day. They started by digging a very deep hole. Holey Cow was it deep.

Anyway, they poured concrete, framed, added doors and windows and all then drywall.

At this point they are in the midst of mudding and taping the drywall. This is a week long process. But its not like they used to do it. Now they mud it. And some spots that need more mud need hot mud. I guess that dries harder or something. Then they sand it and mud it again. Then they sand it and then texture it. i may have missed a sand and mud. But who can keep track?

Anyway, it has been an adventure. The weather has started to cool off and so we are missing things like roofing and then after that we will finally get insulation in the roof. I hope it happens fast since we are getting mighty cold in the mornings.

I could tell you how mad I was the other day when one of the taping and mudding guys (the boss) yelled at Ned because he wanted to watch and was kind of getting in the way.

but for the most part, this hasn't been that bad.

Well, I take that back. Being without a kitchen stinks. We were quoted 1 month without a kitchen. Now it looks like 6 weeks minimum. Ugh. We are using the laundry room for a kitchen right now and Milton says it is smaller than the kitchens he had in the Philippines.

But anyway. I'll probably post pictures at some point here.

The boys are making great strides.

Quinten is potty trained. He was so ready and he just went for it. Nolan was not ready so he is still in diapers and we are giving him a little more time. nolan has a personality where he has to be ready for it.

They are talking more and more. Quinten learned the word handsome today. It sounded more like ndsm! But he's trying. They are both trying.

They can say Please and are working on Thank you. They love to ride around in some battery operated cars that someone gave us (we just had to buy new batteries). they try to drive them, but really they can't. They understand pressing the gas pedal, but don't understand steering and how to change to reverse/forward,. They press the pedal until they run into something, and then when they can't go anywhere anymore, they bail.

They like playing with Legos and cars. Cars are their favorite.

Quinten has a cute smile and endless energy. He is loud when its quiet and likes to talk. He loves his mommy. He talks more clearly than Nolan.

Nolan is a calm guy, until he isn't. He is cool until things don't go the way he wants. He has a sunny smile and is usually very zen. When he isn't, its a melt down. He doesn't like being bullied by his brothers (who take advantage of his calm). He still has some waves to his hair. He just came into the room and said "Daddy what you doing?"

Daddy is watching old home movies on his computer with the boys. Mia is playing the piano and Quinten just said "Plain Pano". Quinten is sitting on Dad's lap and Nolan is sitting on our bed right next to them. They are enjoying being together.

Ned is such a cute kid. He has a winning smile and is forever talking and telling you about things. Today he came up to me and said "I found my Batman Cape! I need to find my shirt so I can ZOOM!" The other day he told Grandma that he liked what she was wearing. He really likes to help. Yesterday he got very upset because he wanted to help gather the eggs and he could only find one boot. He likes to take out his zoomers (his arms) to chase the chickens back into the pasture.

Ned loves his primary class. He is a sunbeam. He calls his teacher by her last name. He hasn't quite figured out the "Sister" part. He doesn't know it yet, but his teacher next year is going to be his Aunt Ya Ya (As Quinten has named her).

Cecilee has moved over to Charter school this year. There have been many changes this year! She is 12 now. She is in 7th grade. She is taking on more responsibility and is in the class presidency in Beehives. I think this has been very good for her. It has gotten her involved and I think she really likes the friendships she is forming. She is doing very well right now. Soccer is starting up again. She isn't a star player, but she likes the sport and plays hard. I am grateful for the friendships and exercise she has been getting.

Cecilee loves to read and likes Lego Friends. She is maturing so quickly. I can't believe that she will be 13 soon.

Mia is in the 5th grade. She also loves to read. She has a creative personality. She likes to be outside and seems to enjoy that more than inside. She enjoys riding bikes and trying to fit in the battery cars that the boys have. She has a lot of talent on the piano and she and Cecilee are still taking lessons from Grandma. If I could get her to practice, she would be taking the world by storm!

Mia loves animals and has really enjoyed playing with our new kitten (don't ask. Yes, we were lazy about getting George fixed and it looks like we are paying for it. Luckily, just 1 kitten that we know of. yes, that is on the horizon very soon)

both of the girls help a lot with their younger brothers.

Milton has been busy trying to keep the lawn alive during the summer with no sprinklers. He says that he spent his whole summer moving sprinklers around. We just sent two steer to the butcher. We have 3 turkeys and 4 meat chickens who are going to the butcher closer to thanksgiving. I'll be glad when I don't have to shut them in at night and let them out in the morning.

Milton will be posting pictures of our remodel here soon!

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-35559060907569188832015-06-16T12:11:00.001-07:002015-06-16T12:11:16.370-07:00Every yearI make a book using stories from this blog. This year is going to be crazy if I don't actually post something!

The boys are keeping us running as always. Quinten is very busy all the time. Always on the go, never likes to sit still. He has a really cute grin that he pulls out all the time. Especially when he is getting into trouble. he loves to giggle and laugh. He is our most active boy. He doesn't like to stand in line, but who does. He enjoys nursery and loves the 'boons. (baloons for those who don't speak Quinten). he loves his mom and likes to be at my side if I am in the room. At church he likes to sit in my lap. But that makes sense since when they were born we each kind of assigned ourselves a twin to watch during church and Quinten was always my assigned twin due to his being the more needy boy. He talkes more clearly than Nolan and it seems like he is learning a new word every day. He loves being independent.

Nolan is a more quiet calm little boy. He likes to sit and contemplate. He likes to have fun just like any other little boy, but he is more independent. He is a water baby. We went to the pool the other day and he was fearless. Which scared the heck out of me. But he would just wade into water up to his chin and only turn around when I turned him around. Needless to say I am looking for a swim class for him asap. He also talks a lot, but you really have to listen to him. He mumbles. But he talks. Milton had him saying words for him the other day. His vocabulary is as big as his brothers, but if he doesn't need to say anything, he won't.

The girls are in swim team this year and loving it a lot.

But more on that and Ned later. I've got to go and get some stuff done!Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-42723246767733358132015-03-09T12:45:00.002-07:002015-03-09T12:47:35.374-07:00Wait, how long has it been?I just saw on another blog linked to this one that its been 5 months since I posted. that can't be right, can it?

Well anyway, life moves very quickly these days.

Our biggest news is that we are thinking about adding on to the house. Trying to figure out if we should go up or down and if we can afford any of it.

the cows are getting fatter, the chickens are getting adventurous. They have been free ranging all winter and have been digging in my front flower beds. Ugh. so I put chicken fencing on the pasture fencing and so they can't get out of the pasture unless they go onto mom and dad's property.

this morning in almost ran over a chicken in the dark. she was wandering down our lane. somehow she and another chicken never made it back home last night before they all got shut in. they do like to get out at mom and dad's property but then have a problem figuring out how to get back in. I may have to put chicken fencing all the way down mom and dad's fence line at this rate. Don't want to lose any chickens. We are seriously drowning in eggs but wouldn't want to lose any chickens!

The boys are all driving me crazy. Every time I get near the sink all 3 want a drink of water Every time. Glasses are always in short supply because of this. They are also very insistent. They can't be deterred. We are thinking about rigging a drinking fountain or something.

Ned can count past 20. He can also count down from 5 and usually follows it with "Blast off!" . he started preschool 3 weeks ago and can't get enough. i get him ready for the day and then he gets upset when he isn't going to preschool. He will be thrilled that preschool is 2 days in a row this week because of spring break.

the boys are talking more and more, but still not very clearly. they repeat occasionally. But mostly its still gibberish. cute gibberish!

Nolan likes gamma and gampa . Quinten likes them but is still in love with his mama and likes me close at all times.

they love that its getting warmer outside and enjoy riding bikes in the driveway. It really is their favorite outside thing to do. Occasionally I can get them over to the swing set or garden, or even chasing chickens, but riding bikes is better than anything.

Cecilee is in middle school and has become so independent. she has a locker and everything. She is also in young womans and enjoys Sunday school. I can't believe she is 12 now.

Mia is doing well in school but struggles with acting out. I'm trying to help her find ways to express herself. I'm not sure what to do to help her. My latest idea (since she doesn't love sports, but needs to stay active) is to try 4-h. We haven't signed her up, but are trying to find out more. So if you know anything, share!

Milton and I have been healthy after he experienced pneumonia a few months back followed by several allergic reactions to medications. Its awful. Now every time amoxicillan comes into my house I'm hyper aware of allergic reactions. Ugh.

We've got plants up in the greenhouse and several projects in the planning stages.

Oh, the cats.

so a few months ago we adopted 2 cats from Weiser. We have a mouse problem in the garage and one of them was supposedly a mouser. It was on kitty death row along with another cat and so for $20 we adopted both.

One cat ran away after 2 days and one of the girls leaving the garage door open.

The other cat was fine until we brought her outside. Then she had a kitty heart attack and was clawing and scratching to get back inside! She had never been outside before. Great.

Anyway, after about a month of her living in the garage we put her in the shed and decided it was sink or swim. We don't do animals in the house.

She is doing ok. she is living in a covered area of our ditch and we feed her and she is still the same fat cat. She loves to be pet. Has no interest in mice. Great.

So we adopted 2 more feral cats. Great mousers and had been living outside. They were kittens, and so they should be tameable.

They have been living in the laundry room for a few weeks and now they are living in the kitchen. They are doing ok. One hates us and one is coming to accept us. It will let me pet it without running and is a pretty laid back cat. We named it Oscar. The other kitty is on the small side. Originally it liked us more than Oscar, but now it just hates us. It doesn't bite and only scratches when it is trying to get back into its home. Not much anymore . We will give it another week or so and see if it will come around. We need it to accept us enough to stick around when it starts living outside. No name yet, but we were thinking about ferdinand or maybe another O name. Its hard because we don't know if its a girl or a boy yet. And no name has stuck yet. Its hard to name a terrified cat.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-75212387472639538702014-09-28T15:43:00.000-07:002014-09-28T15:43:11.610-07:00Finding myself...againAnd so it goes. I've come to the conclusion that you can never just define yourself. As I have more children and life and challenges come to me, I have to find myself again. I don't mean religiously. I know I am a daughter of God. I mean, find ways to express myself, time for myself - find ways to be Megan, all the while being Mom.

I've found that as my days get busier with everything, this task is bigger and bigger. I find the time to work out, but I just don't have the time for expressing myself creatively anymore. I love crocheting, don't mind sewing, tolerate knitting, and dabble in a bunch of other things. but the last time I sewed was last year, the last time I spun wool into yarn was 2+ years ago. I did crochet a bit last month, I haven't knitted for at least 6 months. I did do some origami last month.... How did I find time for it? I remember my kids and house suffering for a few days. Maybe that is the answer. Not make time for it. TAKE time for it. That and I've noticed that time spent on electrical devices is a lot of wasted time. Not all of it, but a lot. I need to be more organized with my time.

Hmmm things to think about. Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-47926778540814308862014-09-15T19:38:00.002-07:002014-09-15T19:43:43.016-07:00We had the primary program todayI've decided I need new deodorant because I was sweating before
church even started. Ugh. No where else is this a problem. Just
primary (and associated stuff apparently).

So I
ran across an article the other day. On Facebook I think. The first
married Dugger girl (of 19 kids and counting) is pregnant. She was
announcing it before 12 weeks and people were saying that wasn't the norm
and why announce it in your first trimester? She basically said that
even if she were to have a miscarriage, that even if the baby only lived
for a few weeks, its life should be celebrated.

This statement hit me hard. The Baby's life should be celebrated.

There
are a few things you need to know about me. I've had some issues with pregnancy. Specifically staying pregnant.

We had the girls without any problems. Mia was a terror so we decided to wait a bit before having any more. Then I had an ectopic pregnancy. That was unexpected and hard. After that, we
decided we were ready for more children. Imagine our surprise when it took over a year to get pregnant. And then after all of that time, I
suffered a miscarriage. It was heartbreaking after such a long wait
to lose a baby around 6 weeks.

We were so happy when we
found out we were having Ned. What a wonderful surprise. It was one
of those crazy things. We suspected we were pregnant as we drove home
from a family vacation. Once we arrived home we found the power to
our freezer had gone out and we had lost a whole freezer full of meat
which was now very thawed out and just putrid. It wasn't a fun mess to
clean up. But Milton told me the only thing that got him through was
knowing we might be pregnant.

Ned was and still is
our joy. Between torturing his brothers that is :) . But he is most
definitely a favorite child of the whole family. So sweet. So polite.
Such a boy at times. Teasing his brothers isn't the best, but we
are trying to teach him he is trying to learn and behave.

When
Ned was only 9 months old, we decided it was time to try for a sibling
for him. He had taken a long time to get here, so we expected a long
wait for a sibling. Imagine our surprise when after just 1 month we
found out we were expecting. And then at our 19 week ultrasound we
found out it was twins! It was exciting and terrifying.

The
twins have been a joy. We love them very much. We have been trying to
decide if our family is whole. last summer (2013) we unexpectedly found
out we were pregnant. There would only
be 17 weeks between the twins and this new little one. We were excited
but TERRIFIED. I was still nursing the twins, and I joked about eating for 4.

We went our merry way, preparing for this baby. Only to suffer another miscarriage around 8 or 9 weeks.

We were devastated. This baby had been unplanned, but not unwanted.

Once
again, we got caught up in life (as you do with twins) and were trying
to decide if we were done. I was uncertain. Milton was tired. So
was I.

Fast forward to the spring of 2014. We found
out that we were unexpectedly expecting. The boys were getting busier
and busier and Milton and I didn't know how we were going to do it.
After a little bit of time to get used to the idea, we were on board.
We had a doctors visit and then an ultrasound to verify the due date.
Milton's birthday. I teased him that this was his gift. They pulled the due date in because the baby was measuring big. I don't remember the new due date. So much has happened since then.

Just
a week after the ultra sound we had a very sudden miscarriage. I was
17 weeks along and so had to go to the ER. Because of the way everything
happened, I couldn't even travel the 30 minutes to my doctor or my hospital.

I
was supposed to do sharing time that day and only myself and the
secretary were there, everyone else was on vacation since it was the
weekend of the 4th of July. I had to text our home teacher to tell her
since no one else was answering texts in sacrament meeting. Poor lady had to run primary by herself and come up with sharing time in less than an hour.

The
ER was a surreal experience where I reminded Milton to wish his sister
happy birthday, the OBGYN on call talked about chickens and turkeys, and
we saw our sons body.

I won't say we met him because he had passed away
at least a few days earlier. His spirit was gone, his body was still. It all happened so fast. I was getting ready for church, and then I was yelling for Milton - who was getting the boys changed for church - to come and help me.

We later found out (after
pathology) that the placenta had grown to large and my body couldn't
keep up with the blood supply needed for such a large placenta. It must have been really big since I had done 2 placentas (the twins) just a few years earlier. It also
explained some pretty crazy heart palpitations I had experienced in the weeks earlier. They worried me so much I told Milton there was no way I
would have any more babies - it was to scary.

This was an experience that I never want to have again and never would wish on another person.

I've had a rough few months as we have processed this. It was nothing like losing a baby early in pregnancy. We had ultrasound pictures of hands and legs, and seen ultrasound of a very active baby. The body we saw in the ER was nothing like that. My poor little one's body had passed and the fingers and toes were no longer moving and waving or even looking much like a baby should.

Milton and I are doing well now, after some hard months. I think the hardest was when Milton had to go on a business trip 2 weeks after everything. I thought I was OK, but I cried the whole way home from dropping him off at the airport.

Its been a rough few months and I've found purpose in my children. Its wonderful that we have children. Especially ones that will let me hug and cuddle them when I'm feeling down.

I've been through the whys? and was it my faults? You find yourself in this situation and you torture those questions. I had a physical scheduled. I had to know if it was my fault. Was I healthy? Thankfully I was able to get those answers. After finding out the placenta formed in a way that wouldn't support life, and that I was healthy, I found some peace. When the doctor told me that the placenta was most likely at fault for my heart palpitations, I found some more peace. I am finding more and more peace everyday.

After it initially happened, we told only our girls and a few other people. We hadn't told many people about the pregnancy, so it was easy to keep quiet. I am finally at the point where I can talk about it. I don't like to talk about it. But I can.

I have been feeling the need to share what happened for a little while, but wasn't ready. After reading about the oldest Dugger girl, I can't deny my need to talk about it.

These little ones need to be celebrated. Their lives were short. They ended unexpectedly. They were wanted and desired. They were loved.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-86440475112634934782014-09-11T11:17:00.001-07:002014-09-11T11:17:49.626-07:00So its been a whileIt has been a while since I posted. Mostly because I didn't feel like talking about some intense things that happened in my life this summer.

Anyhow, I need to blog because life keeps happening and I need to keep a record of it.

The twins turned 2 a few days ago. Where did those 2 years go? Gone in a flash!

Quinten is a thumb sucker. That one is totally my fault. See, somewhere in the twins first year I noticed that I was always giving attention to Quinten. He insisted on it. Nolan was quiet and always fine and as a result didn't get as much attention. So one day I decided to switch it up. I held Nolan for much of the day and made Quinten get down and go sit with Daddy. I did this for about a day. It didn't go over well with Quinten and as a result he started to self soothe with his thumb.

What I learned from all of this? Nolan could care less. he is just a cool calm kid. Happy to do his own thing, occasional attention from Mom is fine. Quinten is more needy. He needs lots of assurance and loves and cuddles. He wants to sit with me all the time.

Different personalities. Lots to learn as a mom of twins. I guess I can feel the guilt every time we have an orthodontist appointment later in life.

Quinten is also one who has a smile on his face all the time. Loves to climb and be active.

They both love to swing on the swingset. They swing on their tummies. Their are only 2 swings (and 2 additional baby swings) and they get fought over with Ned there also, but there is always something else to do outside, so fights don't last long.

All 3 boys love to play in the garden. They love to dig in the dirt, splash in any puddles, and be like mom. That last one is ok for the most part until they decide they need to help me harvest. We lose a lot of peppers that way.

Ned was helping me pull out old corn stalks the other day to feed to the cows and we got matching paper type cuts (what do you call them when they are from corn leafs? Corn cuts?) He loved how happy this made the cows. They love those stalks!

Speaking of the cows, a cow licked my hand the other day. I think I may be getting to friendly with the black cow the girls call skunk face. Its got a weird black and white design on its face. Anyway, we have a peach tree in the pasture that hangs over the fence from the neighbors. They don't ever harvest it and the fruit just drops. I started out by throwing some to the cows and they would eat them. But then the black cow started following me over there and I was basically just giving him some (the other cow didn't care). And then I noticed he would get really close to me before nervously jumping away. so the other day I held out a peach to him and he would have eaten it out of my hand. Except I jumped when that gross tongue touched my hand. Yuck!

Nolan is our singer. He also is our talker. Its all mumbled at this point for the most part but very definite. If you want him to start singing, just belt out "Let it Go!" (from Frozen) and he will take it from there,. Unfortunately he only knows that one line. But he is so cute.

Ned also likes to sing and will go around singing "The best 2 years! The best 2 years!" which is a movie we watch on Sundays. Today he was singing that and I remembered that on Sunday he was singing Follow the Prophet after Nursery. So I started singing that and he joined right in. To my surprise Nolan joined in. Very mumbly, but singing. So then a round of Let it go was called for so that Nolan could sing some actual words. It was all very cute.

The boys (all 3) love going outside and I don't know what we are going to do when it gets cold. The mere mention of outside has all 3 racing for the back door and Nolan saying "Side!!". They also love getting their shoes on so they can go. We may have to visit Grandma a lot this winter because taking all 3 of them anywhere by myself is nearly impossible. Maybe we can talk Grandma into visiting story time at the library with us.

For the boys birthday we had Thai food for dinner and then the girls and Dad raced off to soccer practice. After they came home we had a yellow cake (almond flavored) with lemon curd filling and cream cheese frosting. It was very good. A little home made vanilla frosting and yum! They got some new toys that light up and sing, and they were in heaven. They got a few flashlights that make noise and some new toy cars. Ned has already claimed many of the toys as his own and there have been lots of grabbing and pulling away. Luckily 2 days later it seems to have calmed down.

Cecilee has started middle school. She loves it and enjoys her friends. I think she enjoys the responsibility and is always talking about tests and which subjects she has and her locker and all that sort of stuff. I enjoy the access to the library. She has been checking out books here and there for me. I'm in heaven. We are not in a library district so don't have access unless we go with Grandma. And that is fine and fun, but it can be complicated to try and do anything with boys along. I enjoy YA fantasy (E.D. Baker, Jessica Day George, etc) and they have lots of it there!

Mia is enjoying her new teacher. He has made her a team leader which is great because she has to lead a team and encourage them to do good and turn in work, etc. Which means she is more aware of the importance of doing that herself. YAY! Its been a great motivation. She is doing well.

I get to bring both of them to the bus stop each morning and wait with them. to many crazies out there to do anything else. It has us up early since the middle school bus arrives an hour+ before the elementary school bus, but its a good time to have one on one time with my girls.

Milton and I doing well. We have been trying to keep up with these girls and boys. Soccer practice, the primary program, birthdays, school. Some day I've got to figure out how to keep up. Right now I'm taking it one day at a time.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-80837134895056849242014-06-29T11:54:00.000-07:002014-06-29T11:54:17.524-07:00sosThe funny thing is that I tried to type 'wow' as the title of the post. i had my hands in the wrong position and it came out as SOS. So I stuck with it. Because we have a busy month. Although, I don't know if we are at SOS.

The girls have 2 weeks of swimming lessons starting tomorrow.

The girls have 2 more weeks of softball.

Milton gets to go to Singapore for work in a few weeks for about a week.

We get to leave for the Beach on the very last day of the month.

I teach sharing time just one more time over the 4th of July weekend. Then I'm free again until September.

Does anyone else have the trouble of keeping the chairs around the table and not pushed to the cupboard to get into things (by 2 toddlers)? With one child we managed to keep up with it. With 2, its awful. One will push the chair over and then they both climb up and wreak havoc.

You could say, just keep the cupboards cleaned off.

Yesterday they took one of the burners out of the stove.

They are very curious.

I don't know how i'm going to get through this phase but i hope its over quickly.

The twins love to help put laundry away. All the boys do. So that's helpful.

They still love to be outside. We've had rainy days this week and we managed to survive. So that's good.

church is still a wrestling match. No handing them back and forth to another parent when one gets wiggly or whiny. To many kids and not enough adult laps. But they can only get older and we are working on helping them learn about church behavior.

They love nursery. The food won them over and then the music and then the toys. all the while having Ned in their with them helps also.

Ned's potty training is going ok. Most days are good. With the occasional accident mixed in. Just a few a week. So we are getting there. He had one yesterday that wasn't his fault. He locked himself in the car while we were stacking wood. He hasn't figured out how to open a car door yet.

Ned starts swimming lessons tomorrow with the girls. He doesn't like to get his ears wet in the tub, so we took them all to the pool on Friday. He was hesitant at first, but by the time we left he was going in and out of pools and sitting on the steps. he loved moving around in the 1ft pool and splashing. I think as long as his class isn't filled with cryers and screamers he should do just fine.

The girls earned the pool trip by doing their chores really well for an entire month.

The girls are maturing very well lately. When they do their chores everyday they are learning that they are easier to do. all in all the whole house is running better since they are helping out more.

We all are in charge of getting a child ready for the day. Its nice to have help dressing and changing all the boys each morning.

the girls have also been earning trips to the library by practicing their piano . they love those because they usually involve an ice cream cone.

We've been busy getting ready for winter by stacking cords and cords of wood, tons and tons of alfalfa and I use the term We loosely. Its mostly Milton and the girls with a little help from Ned thrown in here and there.

Milton is excited for Singapore and I'm excited for him. He has lost over 80 pounds now and is looking really good. I was just looking at pictures from Cecilee's baptism today and he has changed so much! He works out every morning at the work gym and is enjoying life more because he feels better.

I'm just busy. With all the help from the girls I've had to figure out how to structure my day. but for once, the laundry is regularly caught up! And dishes are done every single night, and we are having more fun! The house is looking nice and I've rediscovered the joy I had when I play around on the piano. Next up is rediscovering the joy of doing crafty things!

We have been so busy with school finishing up and everything else going on.

Cecilee is off this week enjoying a few days with some fellow 5th graders at outdoor camp. They are enjoying all sorts of outdoor activities. She really wanted to go and we told her she could go if she earned half the money. And she did. We knew a lot of the chaperones and 2 of her cabin chaperones were from our ward. Her good friends were in her cabin with her also. When i dropped her off I don't even think she knew I was leaving. She was so into what was happening around her. I'm really excited she got to go and pray that its a good experience for her. She needed a little break from her family. don't we all every now and again?

Mia is happy to be done with school she is missing her sister a lot but enjoying being the oldest at home. She keeps adding things to her birthday list (that is still months and months away) and wanting to have swimming lessons and do all sorts of fun things this summer.

Ned is potty training. Most days are good days, but don't ask about poop yet. that is still a work in progress. Yesterday we were busy doing some chicken coop upgrades and he decided to take off his jeans and underwear and stuff them in the irrigation headgate area (which wasn't flowing right then thank goodness. That would have been one mighty clog) and then he proceeded to hide on the back porch and release some large , well, maybe I shouldn't tell you that story. this is a family blog after all. In the irrigation area whilst fishing out his clothing (which he was honest enough to tell us about) I also found an uprooted tomato plant and 2 butternut squash plants. the water was cool, so I think the plants will be fine. but i would never have found those plants in there without having to fish for the clothes. so I guess that was a small blessing.

The boys are still the terrible twosome. They are cute and smiley but boy they are into everything. Every time I turn around Quinton has the dishwasher open and is standing on the door. I don't understand the fascination. Nolan has recently learned to climb (a few months after his brother, he has a different build) and is constantly dragging my kitchen chairs everywhere. So THAT has been a whole lot of fun.

They all enjoy going out side and can be pulled out of any cranky mood at the mere mention of going outside. They love the dirt and water that can be found in the garden. So they are constantly there despite Milton always telling them to stay away.

They also enjoy swinging on the swing on their tummy because they can do it without help. and Quinten likes to climb up the ladder and go down the slide by himself.

Milton has been completing various big projects outside (chicken coop, irrigation pipe, garden redesign) with some help from me. I have my own projects, but am kept busy for the most part chasing children down and feeding them along with cleaning and laundry.

I'm excited for my Canterbury bells which are going to bloom in the next day or so (they are opening Laura!!!) and the first couple are going to be purple. but I see pink and white also.

I still have to figure out what to do with lots and lots of larkspur as well as a whole ton of volunteer tomato plants from our garden. ugh.

Milton and I recently went a way for a quick weekend trip a couple of weeks ago. We had a couple of quiet days in Cascade and boy did we need it. Life has been so overwhelming lately and I knew I needed a breather before summer started. Its my month to teach sharing time, so that's an added stress that I enjoy for the most part. I like the weeks that i feel the kids respond and I feel like a failure the weeks that the kids just stare at me. But I'm getting better at it and have had more good lessons than bad.

I'm so proud of Milton. He continues to actively seek a healthy lifestyle. he gets up at an insane hour and works out every morning before work. I contribute homemade yogurt (check my other blog for the recipe!) and homemade bread, as well as love and support. He is looking so good these days and has so much energy. I love it!

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-40894494591128314292014-05-16T17:54:00.001-07:002014-05-16T18:27:04.890-07:00Potty training! Its finally that time. We are potty training Ned. Wow. We started Monday and have been going ever since. We've had bright shiny days where he took himself 4 times, days of ups (he pooped in the potty chair) and downs (he pooped his pants while we were outside). We are having more ups than downs lately, so thats good. He loves the control it gives him. He gets to be a big boy and be in charge of things a little more.

The other day we were in the garden and he was very helpfully pulling weeds. I said Wow Ned, when did you get to be such a big boy? and he said I go Potty! . That was really cute.

The twins are now the destructive duo, the terrible twosome, and any other name you can come up with. They are a team of destruction from sunup to sundown. I clean up and have the house sparkling and 12 hours later (the next morning) it looks like I never clean my house. We are working on no and giving them more limits since climbing and figuring out how to open things (like the dishwasher) have opened up so many opportunities for exploring these days.

They love to go outside and will cry if you try and go outside without them.

In general they are happy boys, but Nolan gets upset if someone takes a toy away from him and will cry and cry. Quinten is saying "shoe!" and Nolan will say "Hi!" and waves hi and bye.

They both love Grandma who has been coming over to help with them while potty training has been going on.

The girls are excited to be done with school next week. Its earlier than ever this year due to budget cuts. Luckily the budget is restored next year so we will be back to a normal school year.

Interesting thing I learned this year. Grades are due Friday (today), so the whole last week of school is basically pointless. Cecilee had a few hours at the local Rec center with her class today, and then she said that they made it almost all the way through "The Rookie". Hmmm.

Mia has been doing well in school and piano. I wish she would practice more because she has such talent!

They are both taking lessons from Grandma and will be having a recital June 1st!

If you are wondering where all the farm and garden stuff has gone, I've started a separate blog for it.

http://thelazygardeners.blogspot.com/

Its a blog where I will talk about all the crazy stuff I do like garden, make yogurt, cultured butter, homemade bread and cheese, etc. I'm going to learn how to make cottage cheese! Cows! Chickens! garden redesign! and things like that. This will be the purely family blog.

My other blog, http://freeldsbooks4kindle.blogspot.com/ where I post free LDS books for Kindle is also going strong. There have been a lot of good free books in the past few months and I'm enjoying helping everyone get them for free!

Anyway, enough for now. I've got to figure out what to do with 40-50 extra tomato plants...Read more at my other blog.
What a jokeWe all have to pay for them, but have you tried to get in? Its nearly impossible unless you are one of the lucky few.

The only way you even have a chance to get in is if you are willing to do a mid year transfer when another student moves or transfers out. They have a different schedule so they start earlier than public school.

I am so over charter schools.

I still can't believe I have to pay for them yet I can't seem to get into them under normal circumstances. You know, on the first day of school.

Ugh.

Yes, just got the lottery results. No chance in that hot place. Again.

Here have some more of my tax dollars!

I just walked away from this post and I'm back and still ticked off! I have 3 charter schools within 1 mile of my home. I can't get into any of them and have to have my kids bussed to the public school which is several miles away and across a highway (not an interstate, don't want to be unfair).

And I have to pay for them anyway!

It just makes me so mad.

Charter school boundaries are not the same as normal school boundaries. One of our charter school boundaries is one subdivision. ONE. And guess how many houses are in that sub? I think they may have 3 now. It was hit hard by the housing bubble bursting. So even though I am within 1 mile of that school, I'm considered out of bounds. Just like the child 2 towns over in either direction.

Seriously. I. AM. SO.TICKED.OFF.

Ugh.

Worst is that I can't even say anything about this because I would make half my ward mad since they are on the boards of or part of the founding group of parents, or have kids in 1 of the 3 charter schools.

I really would like to send a letter of complaint about this but can't even figure out who to send it to.

Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871021914699611531.post-73623422889495010732014-04-05T09:42:00.000-07:002014-04-05T09:42:18.704-07:00Lots happeningWe have 2 cows, 22 chickens and no cats. The poor cat got hit by a car. I found her by the mailbox about an hour before the kids got off the bus. I'm glad I found her and was able to take care of her because I wouldn't have wanted the girls to see that. No blood or guts. Just the cat - whole - stiff as a board.

Milton is working hard on converting the garden from wooden grow boxes to cinderblock grow boxes. They won't rot! We're also doing a few other things that once they are done, I'll post pictures of. He has quite a few other projects and is still working out daily. He has lost some weight and has so much more energy. He hasn't had a migraine since the fall when we went to the beach.

Speaking of the beach we are looking forward to another trip this summer!!! YAY!

I'm staying busy with plants in the greenhouse. That is where I find my sanity some days. Its so quiet and rejuvinating to go in there and care for the plants. I love it.

The boys all love to go outside. Love to put on shoes, coats, socks, anything that might indicate they will be going outside.

they do make huge messes which I spend a lot of the day cleaning up. Yesterday I needed a shower. I put on Sesame street, slipped out without them noticing and 15 minutes later came out and found the TV channel changed (How?) and that they had found and broken a pint canning jar in the hallway. I found this out when Ned brought me a big broken piece in the kitchen. So I paid for my 15 minutes with 15 minutes of cleaning and vacuuming and making sure there was no glass left. Then since I had the vacuum out I vacuumed the family room and it looked nice. so I guess it wasn't that bad after all.

the boys all go to nursery together and seem to be doing well. They walk right in and sit down at the table. they love it!! Its my favorite part of the day since it comes right after the wresting session that Sacrament meeting has become. We are trying different things though, so hopefully we will figure it out. I think it has somethign to do with the fact that all 3 are competing for everything. We will be splitting one out to sit with someone else and then it will be 1 adult to each child. We will see.

Spring break was fun. We stayed home and played. Lots of outside time. Some Redbox movies. Lots of together time.

Soccer and softball season is upon us . the girls have practice 2 nights a week and are doing well

Well, I hear Ned making trouble in the other room so thats it for now.Me againhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07411231720607070849noreply@blogger.com2
