So we've had a fun week.
I was able to go in and help with A's class on Wednesday. That was a lot of fun because I had grown flowers for their moms and I was able to help the class plant the flowers in their custom painted flower pots (the kids had painted them the day before). It was a lot of fun!!!
Baby E is making some big developmental steps. He has become very vocal and I swear his imitations of what we say are getting so good! I swear he said Daddy the other day.
And the girls report that while he was playing with them in their bedroom, he stood up from the ground by himself. That was earlier this week.
Yesterday they reported that he stood up by himself and then took a few steps when C held out her arms to him. And A reported that he did it again this morning.
Its neat for them to have this experience with him, but I can't help but be a bit jealous that I'm not the one experiencing this with him. But its neat that they can.
Baby E is also cutting teeth like crazy. He cut 2 teeth earlier this week, and it looks like 2 more are cutting right now. What fun! The exciting part though, is that he will have a total of 6 teeth at the ripe old age of 13 months.
A is now riding a 2 wheeler. C has been riding one for a few months now. I think I posted about that already. They are both doing well in school. A has her AR plaque and C is trying to get hers before the school year ends soon. C loves to read, she just hasn't been reading books that have AR tests.
And we got 2 new cows at the auction yesterday. I think the whole experience was a bit traumatic for them however. They have been jumpy and VERY wary of people ever since.
This morning we found that 1 of them had escaped by pushing through a portion of the fence. After chasing him on foot through the next street over, pastures and backyards that aren't ours and through a fence or two, he is finally back in a different pasture with the other new cow and our other 2 cows (or so we thought. Cue forbidding music).
When we went to find the other cows, behind the buildings (we thought) we found that they had gone for a little vacation. Yep, they were gone.
We started calling around to the neighbors and found out from one that they had seen 2 cows matching that description about 3 hours previous to our call. That freaked us out (see $1200 going down the drain along with countless complaints of damage we have to pay for). So hubby went out to search and on the way picked up a couple of boys from our ward. I also called a home teacher who had just moved a few weeks ago who has a couple of boys who would probably be up for the fun of catching cows.
Anyway after a tense hour of searching in the wrong direction, we found them just down the road munching on a pasture that wasn't ours. Hubby is in the process of catching/corralling them now. I can only hope that everything goes well. I'm stuck at home waiting with the kids.I really need to go check on the other cows soon to make sure they don't bolt again. That guy was literally bolting through fences.
Oh, and we went to the doctor on Thursday to find out the sex of the baby. It was all fun and exciting until the ultrasound tech started asking questions like "Now you've already had an ultrasound right?" and "Now WHEN was that ultrasound", and then the best statement of all "Well it looks like you will be having twins".
Yep Twins. Twin Boys to be precise. And we thought that chasing steer was crazy.

Newish news
So I just realized I have news I haven't put on here. Although, if I know you in real life, you already know this.
We are expecting again. YAY. Didn't expect it to happen so quickly. But this one is in a rush I guess.
We find out if its a girl or a boy next Thursday, in 1 week. The whole family is thrilled.
So besides all of that, my lates dilemma is to plant or not to plant?
I have some zinnia's I grew that I want to put around the trees down our lane. They are about 8 or so inches tall. They are strong and I think they could stand up to the sprinklers. But I keep hesitating on if I should plant them yet.
I just about planted them yesterday but then decided not to. Hubby tells me that its supposed to get down to freezing (or nearly) in a few days, and its rather chilly today. But these plants have spent daytime outside and we've been accidentally leaving the greenhouse door open at night.
I don't know. I just hope I don't accidentally kill them.

ch-ch-ch-changes!
They say the only thing that never changes in life is change. Or something like that anyway.
C is getting braces on Monday! Its only phase 1, on the front 4 teeth on the top of her mouth. but whoa. Big changes. she was having a big problem with teeth coming in behind other teeth and 2 different orthodontists said she needed to get into braces and get that fixed right away (cross bite). Then in a few years when she is older she will get braces on the rest. If you could see my kids teeth. When the adult teeth started coming in all I could see were dollar signs. Luckily A - who will most likely have the same problem - has been told that she needs a few more years before starting. Whew.
Baby E is growing and changing as well. his newest trick is that he growls. he loves to make the noise and loves the attention it gets him. If he gets a response, he will keep on growling. Or if you growl back he will keep on going. Until he gets tired.
He has a great sense of adventure. the other day I had been washing wool and was spreading it out on a sheet in the front yard (its the sunniest place and no neighbors to complain!) and he was with me. He started crawling away (first time he has crawled on grass really) and crawled clear over to the trees lining our private lane. Then he turned and crawled towards the side yard. And then started crawling towards the back yard. At this point I was calling to him trying to get him to come back. He wasn't responding and then I couldn't see him anymore because he was on the side of the house. What you don't realize is that our yard is huge and the kid had gone really really far. I wasn't comfy with it anyway. so I finished the bit of wool I was spreading and kept leaning over and yelling for him. He finally turned and then realized how far he was. At that point he started crawling back to me and cried the whole way. It was pretty funny. When he finally got back to me I gave him a hug and a few minutes later he was off again! He loves to explore.

New happenings
So, lots happening over in our neck of the woods. Well, lots of little things anyway.
Baby E is now very good at recognizing the words "eat",and "go", and cries when we use the word "No" sternly. It gets quite a reaction. He is crawling everywhere and loves to put his hands on slidey stuff like DVD covers and packages of diapers and then slides them all over the house. Its pretty cute.
He bear crawls when the floor is to hard or cold for his knees. He hates hats. He loves food. But I guess that is apparent when one of his favorite words is eat. He is also starting to recognize "peaches". He has the whole ward wrapped around his finger. He is the smiliest little boy around. And very mellow. If he is cranky, you can almost bet that he is hungry. Feed him, and life is ok again.
A is doing well in school. She loves to read and check out books at the library like her older sister. She wants to ride a 2 wheeler, but for now has settled for training wheels until a parent has more time to work with her and encourage her. She loves to help me with the greenhouse and the baby chicks. Yes, we have baby chicks right now. She is becoming more responsible and is doing great with her piano lessons. she is excelling at them and one of the things she loves to hear is that she is playing a piece just like her older sister. Can you sense a trend?
C is also doing well. she recently learned how to ride a 2 wheeler without training wheels after lots of practice and determination. She is more timid than her sister when it comes to the animals, and the greenhouse doesn't interest her as much as her sister. But she loves to read. She is a great soccer player as well. At her game this past Saturday, she scored 5 goals. All of last season she only scored 2 goals, so this is a great improvement. A also had a red letter day at Soccer. she scored 2 goals as well. We were so impressed by their mad soccer skills we took them out to Red Robin to celebrate.
I'm doing great, Hubby is doing great. Nothing big to report at this time. the plants in the greenhouse are going nuts (except for tomatoes. Why are tomatoes always the issue?) the chickens are grown and giving us about a dozen eggs a day.
Oh, we do have 2 new steer in the pasture. An Angus and a Hereford. Both are beef cows and not milk cows. so we should get a decent amount of beef from them...Fall of 2013!! Yesssirree Bob, they take a good bit of time to grow. We considered not buying cows again due to the rising cost of cows, but the thought of trying to keep the pastures mowed and we realized it would just be easier to do cows. Besides I do enjoy getting outside during the winter to feed them. Except for that really really cold winter a few years ago...cross your fingers for me 'kay? that one was also a pain for the chickens. That year we got heated waterers due to them freezing all of the time. Really worth it!
I've been cleaning out the garden some. If you want any garlic starts come on over. Now. Before I tear them all out. I've got garlic growing in 3 different beds.
I'm moving some strawberries around and also putting in 2 new blueberry bushes in my neverending quest to grow them. yes, we plant them and kill them. we did have one take off really well last year, but it didn't ever have any berries. I'm hoping that was just because it was new. If it doesn't have any berries this year, it may get the cut. Of course, I may not get around to it for a few years :) .
anyway, I've got to go and check on the chicks. I put them in a new coop today and in the past I've had problems with them trying to sleep outside in the cold. Chickens are stupid. What can I say? Except that Turkeys are positively DUMB.

Another day another dollar
Baby E is now pulling himself up on things.
He is up to eating 3 ice cubes at a time. An Ice cube is basically purreed peaches or apricots or pears etc that I froze in an ice cube tray and then put into a freezer bag.
He is such a cute little stinker who will be 1 soon!
I've been really impressed with A these days. She is much more willing to do her chores these days and loves opportunities to earn $ and treats. We have various jobs around the house that they can choose to earn treats or $$ for depending on what I have in the house. For instance, yesterday the girls helped me in the kitchen. A did such a good job clearing off the cupboards, throwing away garbage, and wiping down everything including the stove! that she earned 4 small halloween sized boxes of Nerds. It seems like a bit much now, but it helped me out so much and that was how much I felt like it helped me out. C swept the floor and did a good job also for 2 boxes of Nerds. Our kitchen floor is big, and has lots of nooks and crannies as well as under the table. Anyway, I guess you could say it was double treat day yesterday.
the girls have been such a help with Baby E. If I need a break after school they will take him into their bedroom while they play and clean. they have been finishing their chores and advancing in piano. All in all its been nice lately.
A has even earned her AR reading plaque. Basically when they read books they can take a test on it and its worth a certain amount of points. The test has 5 (or 10 or more for harder books) questions and they have to get a certain # right to get the points. The books she is reading right now are worth .5 points. She had to earn 15 points to earn a plaque. So 30 books. It is so fun to see her reading and loving it. She is doing so well.
As for me, I'm doing pretty well. Baby E off and on has a "only mommy will do" attitude that drives me bonkers. Yesterday it was bad, today not so bad at all. It goes in spurts.
I've got some eggs in the incubator that should hatch next weekend. We've got plants up in the greenhouse. I've got lots and lots of flowers planted. I'm hoping to have lots and lots of Zinnia's around the trees in the lane. I also have dahlias and painted daisy's started. I'm excited for all of the beautiful flowers to start growing. Love 'em! Now if only I can remember to water them!

He has teeth!
so we have been having all sorts of fun and exciting things happening in our house lately. And some not so great things.
The cold I mentioned last time was quickly followed (not even a day break) by a worse cold. This one was awful because you could hear a crackling in his lungs as he breathed. And he would cough. In our faces. You can't always avoid that. So he finished with the cold about a week ago. The rest of us who caught it from him are still hacking our way through it. It was a really long cold also.
Anyway, his exciting news is that yesterday, after a little while of unusual fussiness, we found that he is growing at least one tooth! Or teefers as we call them around here. I think I can feel a second one coming next to the first, but I don't like to stick my germy fingers in his mouth to often and he won't let me see it all that well. He's to busy feeling them himself with his tongue.
Another fun and exciting thing at our house is that A is reading! She was still just memorizing sight words until just after Christmas. And everything changed. Words were easier for her to sound out. She is reading short books well. And she loves it.
Also, A has been advancing slowly but surely in piano. This week she has been assigned a song that really sounds like a song. Its called square dance or something like that. you can tell she is really excited about playing it and she remembers when C was playing it.
We have also just scheduled a vacation for this summer. Hubby suggested the beach (I guess he and the girls decided), so we found the right beach and then found a great house and we are really excited to be going to Tierra Del Mar in July for a week.
Our little explorer continues to amaze me. The other day I snuck off to the bathroom and after about 20 seconds I heard "Ama!" from the other room. I said "here I am!" and anyway after he got closer and closer and then found me. It was a fun game and amazed me. He's been a little baby for so long and its amazing to me how much learning to crawl has matured him.
