Whereas I get lost in a family history hole and the clutch goes out on the car

The title about says it all. I started working on Family history again and found myself stuck down a hole where I kept finding more and more.  I found a guy's wife's maiden name on the marriage license. Well that had  her parents names on it. So then I found their marriage license and the one for their parents.... and if you know anything about family search then you know I was linking sources like mad and creating new people and my computer was soooo slow and it was a painful kind of fun.

But anyway... :)

Our oldest has been driving herself to seminary and school with her dad's old commuter car. A '98.  Well she took her sister for a treat at DQ tonight and the clutch ended up going out in the parking lot.  Of course my husband was unhappy because it will cost money to fix. But it is what it is.  What are you going to do? Buy a new car? No. you fix the clutch and hope it doesn't go out again anytime soon. For the record, this '98 has had 3 things go out on it.  The battery, the anti lock braking system, and now the clutch. Overall it has been a very solid car.  It is 20 years old after all.  And it needs a new clear coat on the paint.

animal adventures

Well we had another adventure tonight! I talked Dad into raising meat chickens.

It is something I've wanted to try for a while. But I just didn't have the space/couldn't talk Milton into it. So I talked Dad into it. :)

It was fun to watch him care for the Rolin S birds we got. He took really good care if them.

Tonight it was time to get them caught and in a trailer to go to the butcher tomorrow. We decided the pasture was dry enough for a car and trailer (it is irrigation day, but there are a decent amount of high spots in the pasture). We regretted that decision when the chickens were all in the pen on the trailer and Dad was stuck in the mud right at the edge of the pasture.

A little sand, some pieces of bark from the wood pile, a couple of 1x4s and a lot of backing up and pulling forward and he got out. It took about 10 minutes, but It was 10 minutes of panic because I was the one who convinced him it was dry enough and he didn't need to use the Jeep.

I'm excited to tally up the total bill tomorrow after they are processed. It will be interesting to see the total cost of raising 30 meat chickens. We lost 2 along the way. We raised them for about 12 weeks.

I'm also interested in how they taste since I've never eaten a real pasture raised chicken and I've heard this breed is more of a European chicken (whatever that means). They were very nice birds. I thought since some of them were crowing I would get bitten or pecked. But none of that. We grabbed them with a fish net and picked them up.

Mia helped us out and then Mom joined in the fun. We all got covered in feathers and other not so nice stuff that chickens are covered in. After it all I encouraged Mia to wash her hands . Personally I changed my clothes, washed my arms up past my elbows, and wiped my Fitbit down with hand sanitizer. :) My shirt smelled like those birds.

I hope they do well on the ride tomorrow. They are fatter than some of my laying hens and I hope they don't get stressed or hot on the ride. I can't believe how quickly they grew. I think maybe we should have had food only available half the time and perhaps put them out on the pasture more, but this was our first time, and we had no idea they would eat the pasture grass down in their run so completely. Hopefully it will grow back in the next year when we might do this again.

life

Its been a busy summer. It went by so quickly I feel like I just blinked my eyes.

The twins start kindergarten tomorrow. TOMORROW.  This is a day I was certain would never come.  I've been super nervous about it because of their various issues. From personality issues with Nolan and his lack of motivation and speech issues, to Quinten who is so driven and intense.  We went to an open house on Friday and met their teacher. She is the same teacher Ned had. And after meeting the boys she seems totally confident in their ability to do well.  That is just what I needed to hear. She raised 2 sons of  her own and she told me that one son was very much like Quinten in personality.  So she should be able to handle it.  There will be a different classroom aide this year so that makes me sad and a bit nervous. But I'm going to hold off on worrying about that until I have to.

We just got back from 2 different family reunions.  We went to Salmon and camped with Mom and Dad, Alyson's 3 oldest, Linzy and her husband, Alysa and her kids, Wendy and Jake, and Kevin and Kim and 2 daughters.

We had a lot of fun and were able to relax quite a bit.  Milton took the boys, Mia, and Logan fishing. they all caught a fish and I think Ned caught 2.  Someone caught 2 because they caught their limit of 6. Milton was a trooper and even though he didn't get to cast a line, had a good time. he attempted to teach the kids how to clean the fish, and after an afternoon of relaxing cooked them all up for us and we had fish for dinner.

One of the days we took a tour of various sites of interest in Salmon.  Dad and Mom arranged for us to tour the house that Dad built in Salmon.  The lady who lived there was very gracious and generously allowed us run of the whole place.  She seemed very interested in the ways her home had changed since Dad built it and Dad and Mom were interested in the various ways the home had been remodeled.

We left on Thursday, a day earlier than everyone else, because we had to be home Friday morning to go to the kindergarten meet the teacher.

Friday after meeting the teacher, Laura and I drove to Pocatello to another family reunion.  The Lorenzo Snow Whiting SR. Reunion. I think.  I might have that name wrong. It could be JR instead of SR.

But anyway, we met most of the people who stayed and camped in salmon one more night there.  We also met several family members. most of whom i had met years before, or never met.  It was very interesting to see where the various branches of the family had ended up.  Also very interesting to see many new to me old pictures.  They are on family search now, so I'm going to have to check them out a bit more thoroughly.

I can't believe school starts on Monday. Tomorrow!  That is very crazy to me.  My oldest is now a sophmore in high school and has her drivers license.  What?!?  She will be able to date soon.  My second oldest will soon start to attend dances.  Life is ever changing.
